Drunk driving is unfortunately a common occurrence in the State of South Carolina. According to the United States Census Bureau there were 894 fatal traffic accidents in South Carolina in 2009, 377 of which occurred when the driver of the at-fault vehicle had a blood alcohol level of 0.08 or higher. Under S.C. Code Ann. § 56–5–2950(G)(3), if any driver’s blood alcohol content (BAC) is 0.08 or higher it is presumed that they are operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
Based on these statistics, drunk driving undoubtedly increases the risks of an accident and can often result in death. What these statistics do not show is the affect of the death of a loved one on the family. When one of our South Carolina DUI accident lawyers are hired to represent the family of a loved one in a wrongful death suit, we do everything possible to console the family during this difficult time. We consider the needs of our clients above all else. Our clients often find comfort in knowing that bringing an action against the at-fault party serves as a pathway in deterring this type of conduct in the future and saving more innocent lives.
